How Pestcheck Went From 2 To 20 Service Requests Per 100 Website Visitors

And revenue up 23% on the same months a year before. Julie's pages ranked on Google, but the website wasn't turning visitors into service requests. We rebuilt it, then took over her SEO, Google Ads and listings.

The Challenge

Visitors found the site, then left without requesting service

Julie taught herself SEO and wrote her own blog posts, and her pages ranked on Google. What she couldn't work out was how to turn those visitors into customers.

01Challenge

A website that didn't turn visits into requests

The site had moved from GoDaddy to WordPress in 2020 and still had problems. Fewer than 2 in every 100 visitors asked for service.

02Challenge

Leads that cost too much

Google Ads brought in leads, but each one cost too much. In October 2021 Julie cut the ad budget in half.

03Challenge

No idea where customers came from

The only tracking was CallRail. More than half of new customers had no known source, so there was no telling which marketing paid for itself.

04Challenge

Competing with the big chains

Orkin, Rentokil and the bigger local firms were spending heavily on SEO. Pestcheck's Moz Domain Authority, a 1-to-100 score of how well a site can rank, was 12.

05Challenge

Doing it all herself

Julie wrote the blog and did the SEO herself. Her web person no longer had time for her, and the ads sat with another vendor. She wanted one team for the website, SEO and Google Ads.

What We Did

Fix the website first, then bring more people to it

Pestcheck's pages already had visitors. So the first job was a website that turned them into service requests. Everything after that brought more people in.

  1. A website built to win the job

The reasons to trust Pestcheck up front: over 20 years in pest control, its certifications, its reviews and photos of the team at work. "Pest Control" under the logo, the city asked on the form, and a WhatsApp button for people who would rather text.

  2. Every call's source on record

Call Tracking Metrics now shows which ad, Google listing or page each call came from. For the first time, Julie could see which marketing paid for itself.

  3. A page for each pest and each city

SEO campaigns for pest control and rodent control, plus blog posts on rodents, silverfish and carpenter ants. Separate pages for West Vancouver and North Vancouver; Burnaby, New Westminster and Bowen Island came later.

  4. A Google Business Profile for every location

That's the listing that shows on Google Maps. Pestcheck now has five. Each one is kept up to date with regular posts, new reviews and a weekly report on where it ranks.

  5. Ads that stopped paying for the wrong searches

Negative keywords, which are words that stop an ad from showing, kept the ads off contractor searches and searches for the big brands. Once SEO brought in enough on its own, the ads were switched off.

  6. Email to the people who find pests first

A campaign to home inspectors and roofers, who often find rodent droppings in attics before the homeowner does.

The Work

Before and after

The new site puts the reasons to trust Pestcheck first, and a quote button at the top of every page.

Left, the old site. Right, the rebuild: Google and BBB ratings up top, a page for each kind of pest, its certifications, and a quote button in the header. Requests went from 1.77% of visitors to 20.15%.

06Highlight

No more paying for Google Ads

SEO now brings in enough service requests to keep Pestcheck growing at the pace Julie wanted, so the Google Ads were switched off. The money that used to go to ads every month now goes into other parts of the business.

07Highlight

Partners who find the problem first

An email campaign to home inspectors and roofers. Of 89 reached, 13 became partners, 14.6%. For comparison, the average cold email gets a reply of any kind, even a "no thanks", from 3.43% of the people it reaches, according to Woodpecker's study of over 20 million emails.

08Highlight

More revenue than the year before

From July to October 2022, Pestcheck brought in 23% more than in the same four months of 2021. Two years later, July 2024 was 28% higher than July 2021.

“I contacted Justin at the Coding Bull for advice and recommendations on managing our SEO better. He completely understood my frustration with Google Ads. More importantly, he came up with a great concept for us and created a new, improved website and SEO campaign. Justin and his team are now an integral part of our business.

I highly recommend them to any small business looking to grow and keep up with the ever-changing online marketing strategies.
